The Arrival

I want to find the way back, and when I arrive,
I want to carve out a space, in peace,
and fill it with all the lovely things I never knew.
It is said Eden will be at its center—
                walled off from the world
by a circle of towering bushes.
I will parachute in, and I will stay there,
                            planting white gardenias
and pink saucer magnolias where I see fit,
adding to them all the time with heather
and wild zinnias of every shade.
It will be a place—so beautiful and in bloom–
                                                where I am finally known
                                                    by the Architect,
                                                        and I will find
                                                            no reason
                                                                to ever
                                                                    leave.
