Where is the Lord?

The prophet Jeremiah questioned why
His people had neglected asking, “Where,
Where is the Lord?”, and thinking God was pleased
To dwell unbothered in his holy tent.
Instead, God longed to lead them out their deserts
For more Edenic springs on mountain tops,
And feed them with the fruit that grows unending
On trees which sprout by streams of living waters.
But as it was, they wanted none of these,
Content to live by work their own hands wrought,
Like broken cisterns leaking all its water,
Or lifeless shapes they call their deities.
The prophet uses words like wood or kindling
To reignite their hearts for God again.
